Cavendish Town Elementary School Board Minutes
January 15, 2008, 6:00 p.m.
Present
Board:  Mike Ceravole-Chair, Dr. Bont-Vice Chair, Sharon Huntley, Jim Ballantine and Jessie Goodman
        
Administration:  Joan Paustian – Superintendent, George Thomson – Principal     
Public/Staff:  Peggy Svec, Connie Kendall, Meredith Austin and Kim Currier

Call to order- Mike called the meeting to order at 4:15 p.m.

Approval of the 2008-2009 Budget- George gave the board the changes to the budget.  Extended year services were moved to Special Education.  He changed EEE by $30.00 so the bottom line of revenues changed by $30.00.  The bottom line of the budget is $1,802,302.00.  Discussion ensued regarding Green Mountain’s assessment.  Sharon made a motion to approve the proposed Cavendish Town Elementary School Budget for the 2008-2009 school year in the amount of $1,802,302.00.  All approved.
      
Other Business- Joan read two warnings for the drainage problem behind the school.  Discussion ensued.  Jim said he has a problem with this article being on a separate warning.  He said he thinks this creates another meeting.  Discussion ensued.  Joan said this article can be added to the original warning.  The article reads:   Shall the voters of Cavendish appropriate an amount not to exceed $16,000.00 to be used to eliminate the drainage problem behind the school.  Dr. Bont made a motion to add this article to the existing warning that was approved at the last meeting.  Sharon seconded.  All approved.
Connie explained how important the Early Education Collaborative is for students when they enter Kindergarten.  Peggy also reiterated how important she feels the Early Education Collaborative is for children.  Meredith explained to the board how the funding for the Early Education Program worked previously and how the funding will change for next year.  She said the bottom line is the tax payers of Cavendish will fund the Early Education Program. This program is for 10 hours a week.  Peggy said it is 10 hours of preschool.  Joan said there are curriculum standards by the state for preschool.  Discussion ensued.            

Adjournment- Sharon made a motion to adjourn.  Jim seconded.  Meeting adjourned at 5:03 p.m.
